Mumbai: A 39-year-old woman from Nagpur has been booked by the Bhoiwada Police for allegedly attempting theft at the resident doctors’ hostel in KEM Hospital. The accused, identified as Aarti Devnani, was caught red-handed by a female doctor while allegedly attempting to steal from a hostel room.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Dr. Aishwarya Bhumre, 28, is employed at KEM Hospital and resides in Room No. 910 on the 9th floor of the UGPG Hostel along with her friend Nikita Umbarkar, also 28. On the morning of June 4, both women locked their room and left the key in the window slot by the door before leaving for duty.

Around 1:30 PM, Dr. Aishwarya returned to the room for lunch and noticed that the door was closed but the lock was open, raising her suspicion. When she opened the door, she saw a woman picking up a small purse inside the room. Upon questioning, the woman claimed her name was Neha and said she was a trainee in the ENT department at KEM Hospital.

She further claimed her friend lived on the 8th floor and that she had mistakenly come to the 9th floor due to a lift issue. Unconvinced, Dr. Aishwarya asked for her ID and mobile, the woman avoided giving a clear answer and said she was looking for a sanitary pad. Dr. Aishwarya then took her to the 8th floor for verification, but the woman continued giving evasive responses.

Eventually, Dr. Aishwarya handed her over to the hospital security guard, Balkrishna Thore, who alerted senior authorities and contacted the police. During questioning at the hospital, the woman confessed her real identity as Aarti Devnani, a resident of Vijay Nagar, Katol Road, Nagpur. The Bhoiwada Police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
