Mumbai: In a significant disciplinary action, an Assistant Police Inspector (API) and two constables attached to the Kherwadi Police Station have been suspended for allegedly interfering in a private financial dispute for personal gain while off duty. The suspension orders were recently issued by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region), Paramjeet Dahiya.
The suspended personnel are accused of overstepping their authority by getting involved in a financial dispute between two individuals, Mufti Nasimuddin Sukhanu Sheikh and Mehul Mehta, also known as Shafi Surya, despite having no official jurisdiction over the matter and not being on active duty at the time.
According to officials, the officers allegedly tried to pressure the parties involved into reaching a settlement, raising serious concerns about misuse of power and professional misconduct. “Suspended officers allegedly intervened in a financial dispute involving two persons Mufti Nasimuddin Sukhanu Sheikh and Mehul Mehta alias Shafı Surya - without proper authority or jurisdiction, and without being on active duty during the incident,” said Additional CP Dahiya.
More details are awaited.
