The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Ghatkopar Police in Mumbai has successfully seized 500 grams of MD drug valued at ₹1 crore. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid at Ratanshi Khimji Vadi in Ghatkopar (East) on Sunday. In the initial raid, 100 grams of the drug were seized, and one individual was detained. The detained person confessed to the existence of a significant quantity of the drug near Nalasopara Railway Station.

Second Raid and Arrest

Following the information provided by the detained suspect, the police conducted another raid in the Nalasopara area. During this operation, they seized an additional 405 grams of the drug and arrested the second suspect. The two suspects have been identified as Mohammed Ajaj Shaikh, aged 58, and 42-year-old Bright Oliver from Nigeria.

Impact on Illicit Drug Supply Chains

Sources reveal that Shaikh, also known as Kaliya, had established a presence in the drug business several years ago. His arrest has disrupted illicit drug supply chains in areas such as Vasai, Nalasopara, Mira Road, and Mumbai. The arrested individuals were found to be active in Kurla and Dharavi.

Previous Criminal Record

Shaikh, who is one of the accused, already had a case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Additionally, Shaikh's son, Mohammad Nawaz Shaikh, has been in jail since 2020 after being caught with 275 grams of MD worth Rs28 lakh.

A case has been registered against the two suspects under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The court has granted police custody of the accused until June 7 for further investigation.
