Mumbai Airport To Be Temporarily Non-Operational For Six Hours On May 8 For Annual Pre-Monsoon Runway Maintenance

CSMIA has scheduled the runway maintenance for May 8, between 11 am and 5 pm. During this time, both the primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational.

Mumbai: Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s runways would be temporarily non-operational for six hours on Thursday for scheduled pre-monsoon runway maintenance.

The Free Press Journal had reported on April 19 about the annual pre-monsoon maintenance work for both runways. CSMIA has scheduled the runway maintenance for May 8, between 11 am and 5 pm. During this time, both the primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational. As part of CSMIA’s comprehensive monsoon contingency plan, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance to notify airlines and stakeholders, enabling airlines to adjust their flight schedules well ahead of time. enabling them to plan appropriately.

According to the airport authority, this annual pre-monsoon maintenance is crucial for preserving the health and longevity of CSMIA’s expansive airside infrastructure, covering 1,033 acres. Specialists will inspect runway surfaces for wear and tear, addressing preventive measures for waterlogging to ensure safe landings and take-offs during the monsoon season. CSMIA is also said to leverage advanced technology to monitor the entire maintenance process and ensure timely execution within the designated six-hour window.

To enable a seamless experience for passengers, CSMIA has coordinated this maintenance with multiple stakeholders, including airlines and aviation authorities. “This proactive approach reflects CSMIA’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and reliability in its operations. By prioritising infrastructure upkeep, CSMIA aims to ensure a smooth experience for both airlines and passengers, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and service excellence,” said the airport authority in a statement.
