NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, marking the occasion of National Handloom Day by gifting him a Paithani stole, a traditional textile art form created by the master weavers of Maharashtra. Sule thanked PM Modi for graciously accepting the handloom gift, calling it a gift of pride.
“Thank you, Hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, for giving your valuable time on National Handloom Day & graciously accepting our gift of pride – the iconic Paithani stole from the talented weavers of Maharashtra,” Sule shared on social media.
Discussion on Farmer Issues & Banana Fibre Textiles
During the meeting, Sule raised key issues affecting Maharashtra’s farming community, especially those involved in producing and weaving banana fibre textiles. She urged the Prime Minister to consider policy-level support to help such artisans scale their businesses and increase their income.
Health Check & Cordial Exchange
PM Modi also inquired about the health of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar during the conversation, reflecting the cordial nature of their meeting.
This isn’t the first time Sule has acknowledged the Prime Minister’s gestures. During the recent discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Sule had publicly praised Modi for handing over the leadership of an international delegation to the opposition.
She recalled being contacted by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who told her, "Supriya, you have to give 10 days for the country." Sule led the parliamentary delegation, which included BJP MP Anurag Thakur and Congress veteran Anand Sharma.
India’s Growing Global Image
Reflecting on the tour, Sule shared that wherever the delegation went, India was greeted with admiration. "People said, ‘You’ve come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi.’ India’s global image is strong, and our ceasefire stance in Operation Sindoor was widely respected."
