During a two-day visit to Navi Mumbai, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Scheduled Caste Welfare Committee met with the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) workers’ union, which highlighted several instances of alleged discrimination and administrative bias in the Navi Mumbai municipal Corporation (Nmmc ).
Allegations of Delayed Promotions Despite Vacant Posts
The allegations included delays in promotions for eligible candidates despite vacant posts and the absence of any legal stay orders, as well as the allocation of smaller work chambers to certain officers while others hold multiple large offices.
The union also alleged that Scheduled Caste category officers are often confined to non-executive postings such as Health, Education, and inward–outward departments for 10–12 years without transfers, while other category officers receive postings in executive roles like Property Tax, Ward Offices, Town Planning, and Finance.
Executive Positions Allegedly Reserved for Other Categories
Further, INTUC claimed that important committees in the Corporation — including those for promotions, transfers, and suspension reviews allegedly lack representation from NMMC’s own Scheduled Caste category officers, with positions instead being filled by deputed officers who are stated to be not able to raise concerns against the administration.
Focus on Administrative Accountability in NMMC
The Committee assured that such matters would be addressed, and appropriate action would be taken to ensure fairness in promotions, postings, and workplace conditions.
It has assured that no injustice will be allowed against Scheduled Caste category employees in the NMMC.
