Amravati (Maharashtra): A mild earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck the Melghat region of Maharashtra’s Amravati district on Wednesday night, triggering panic among residents who rushed out of their homes in fear. The tremor, which occurred at 9:57 pm, marks the latest in a series of seismic events reported in the area over the past few years.
District authorities confirmed the quake but said no casualties or damage had been reported so far. Although mild in intensity, the tremor was distinctly felt across several villages, prompting concern among locals who are increasingly wary of the region’s seismic activity.
Another Earthquake Reported 9 Months Ago
This is the second recorded tremor in less than a year. In September 2024, parts of Amravati, including Dharni, Chikhaldara, Anjangaon Surji and Achalpur, experienced similar shocks. During that incident, residents had reported shaking beds and falling utensils, with a few homes in Chikhaldara developing visible cracks. Though no major damage was recorded, the psychological impact was notable, and the latest quake has only deepened those fears.
Adding to the scale of the event, tremors from yesterday’s quake were also felt in parts of Jalgaon district, particularly in Raver and Khanapur. Local officials there confirmed the seismic event and noted that the shocks likely originated from Amravati. According to a TV9 Marathi report, Raver Tehsildar Bandu Kapse stated the tremors, which measured 3.5 on the Richter scale in the Jalgaon region, were felt across a 300–400 km radius. Residents in Raver reported mild shaking, though no damage was observed.

The growing frequency of such earthquakes, even if low in magnitude, has become a source of anxiety for residents in Melghat and neighbouring regions. Experts have yet to confirm whether this increased activity points to a deeper tectonic concern, but for now, locals remain on alert.
As authorities continue to monitor seismic developments, residents have been advised to remain cautious but calm. No official warning or evacuation protocol has been issued as of yet, but officials said they are closely watching the region for any further activity.
