The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has directed all shops selling chicken, mutton, fish and slaughterhouses within its jurisdiction to remain shut on Independence Day, August 15.
Closure Mandatory from Midnight of August 14 to August 15
In a statement issued on August 4, KDMC officials urged both legal and illegal shopkeepers to cooperate by closing their establishments for the day, in accordance with the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. The directive also applies to slaughterhouses.
According to the Licensing Department, the shops and slaughterhouses must remain closed from 12:00 AM on August 14 until 12:00 AM on August 15.
Strict Action Warned Against Defaulters Under Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act
KDMC officials warned that strict action would be taken against violators under Sections 334, 336, and 374(A) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.
Closures Enforced on Six Festivals Including Ganesh Chaturthi and Gandhi Jayanti
Kanchan Gaikwad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Licensing Department, said that as per an earlier resolution passed by the civic body, a notification mandates the closure of all butcher shops and meat-selling establishments on certain occasions.

“These include six festivals such as Mahavir Jayanti, Gandhi Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi, and August 15, during which all chicken, mutton, and fish shops, along with slaughterhouses, must remain closed,” Gaikwad said.
