Mumbai woke up to intense showers after an overnight downpour, with heavy rainfall continuing through the day. Several key areas in South Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Ballard Estate, and Nariman Point, experienced steady rain, leading to mild traffic disruptions across both the city and its suburbs.

Powai Lake Overflows Following Heavy Monsoon Rains
Powai Lake, a major artificial reservoir managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC confirmed the overflow early Wednesday morning through an official social media update, sharing images showing water spilling over the lake’s banks.
The civic body’s statement read: “Powai Lake, one of the key artificial lakes under BMC’s management, began overflowing around 6 am today. With a total storage capacity of 545 crore litres (5.45 billion litres), the lake mainly provides non-potable water for industrial purposes and services in the Aarey Milk Colony.” The statement further explained that heavy rainfall in the catchment area over the last 48 hours caused the water level to rise to 195.10 feet, reaching its full capacity.
The ongoing rains since the beginning of the week have intensified pressure on Mumbai’s drainage system, raising concerns about potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions if the rainfall continues. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to stay clear of flood-prone zones and report any emergencies promptly.
