The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a short-term weather alert predicting moderate spells of rain across Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. The showers are expected to be isolated and may occur within the next three to four hours, as per the latest IMD update released this morning.

According to the forecast, the city and its suburbs are likely to witness a generally cloudy sky throughout the day. There is a possibility of moderate rainfall at a few places, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Residents are advised to stay alert and carry umbrellas or rain gear while stepping outdoors.

In addition to the rain advisory, the IMD has also provided information on tidal movements for the day. A high tide measuring approximately 3.33 metres is expected to hit Mumbai’s coastline at 6.18 pm. Earlier in the day, a low tide of 2.51 metres was recorded at 12.36 pm, while another low tide of 1.59 metres is predicted at 1.11 am on Saturday. The combination of rainfall and high tide may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas, especially if showers intensify during high tide hours.

Rainfall recorded over the 24-hour period starting 8 am Thursday showed a varied distribution across the city. The Island City received an average of 17 mm rainfall, while the eastern suburbs recorded 28 mm. The western suburbs saw a slightly lower figure at 24 mm. Though the rainfall intensity has not reached severe levels, weather authorities are closely monitoring any signs of escalation.

Civic authorities and local disaster management teams have been put on alert. Citizens have been urged to follow weather updates, avoid venturing out unnecessarily during heavy spells, and report waterlogging or related emergencies to the BMC helpline.
