Eleven new COVID-19 cases were reported in Thane city on Sunday, signaling a daily surge in infections. On Saturday, nine cases were recorded, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 30 so far.
According to the Health Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), of the 30 total patients, seven are hospitalised — six in a private hospital and one at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital (CSMH) in Kalwa. The remaining 23 patients are in home quarantine and are reportedly in stable condition.
TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao has instructed the health department and all hospitals to remain on high alert amid rising COVID-19 cases. A special isolation room has been set up at CSMH in Kalwa. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chetna Nitil confirmed that adequate stocks of medicines and testing kits are available across all health centers.
Dr. Aniruddha Malgaonkar, Superintendent of CSMH, said the hospital has dedicated 19 beds in a special ward for COVID-19 patients and that an RT-PCR testing facility is also operational.
Additionally, the Civil Hospital in Thane has established air-conditioned isolation rooms staffed with doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. The administration is on alert and ready to respond to any further surge.
Health experts have advised residents to wash their hands frequently — especially before eating and after returning home. They also recommend wearing masks in case of symptoms like cough, cold, or fever, and avoiding public outings until recovery. People experiencing severe symptoms such as breathing difficulty and high fever are urged to seek immediate medical attention.
