Mumbai: The sessions court recently sentenced a 42-year-old man from Thane to 10 years in jail for sex assault on a woman and cheating her of Rs 1.5 lakh on the pretext of marriage. The accused also cheated a few other women, whose statements were recorded.
About The Case
As per the case lodged with the Vile Parle police on July 17, 2016, the accused, Jayendra Moranjan, went by several aliases – Chetak Bhavsar, Sachin Misal, and Rahul Patil. He met the victim, a nurse by profession, through a matrimonial site. The woman alleged that the accused established sexual relations with her by promising marriage. He later took her ATM card and withdrew Rs 1.50 lakh from her account without her consent.

The woman got divorced in 2004, and her family insisted that she get married. She created a profile on a matrimonial site. On June 18, 2016, she received an email from the accused, who introduced himself as Rahul Patil, and claimed he was working as a project head in Emerson Company. After the woman accepted her request, they first met at her house and later at various places, including Shirdi.
A few days later, on June 24, she claimed they went for a movie and he stole her ATM card when she went to the washroom. Following this, he disappeared, claiming his grandmother had been bitten by a snake in Mahabaleshwar. He then blocked her and her family on this phone. The woman realised money had been withdrawn from her account, making her to approach the police. The probe revealed that he had cheated five other women similarly
