Indore: Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari on Tuesday targeted the BJP, saying Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation as the vice-president is an example of the threat looming over the country's Constitution.
Talking to reporters here, Patwari claimed BJP leaders will also have to bear the brunt of this threat in the coming days.
"The hasty resignation of a person holding a big constitutional post like the vice president is a big blow to the dignity of this post. Dhankhar's move is an example of the threat looming over the Constitution," he said.
Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening, citing medical reasons. He sent his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu and said he is stepping down with immediate effect.
Patwari further said that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has been warning the country that along with the Constitution, democracy and constitutional institutions are in danger.
The state Congress president said, "At present, Dhankhar has to bear the brunt of this threat and in the coming times, BJP leaders and the country will also have to suffer." Patwari arrived in Indore after attending the Congress's two-day 'Nav Sankalp Camp' at Mandu, a tourist destination in Dhar district.
He said that during the camp, in the presence of senior Congress leaders, the party organisation resolved to seek a caste census in Madhya Pradesh on the lines of Telangana.
Patwari alleged that the BJP-led state government has been trying to prevent the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for the Other Backward Class (OBCs) community in the educational institutions and government jobs of the state.
He said, "The previous Congress government led by Kamal Nath in the state had increased the OBC reservation from 14 percent to 27 percent (in 2019), but the BJP government has used all legal tactics to stop the implementation of this decision and has paid more than Rs 50 crore to big lawyers to fight in the courts."
