Breast Milk ice-cream? Sounds both intriguing and something you might to stay away from! Well, Brooklyn’s neighbourhood has become the talk of New York City thanks to an unusual frozen treat. OddFellows Ice Cream Co., known for its quirky and inventive creations, has launched a limited-edition “Breast Milk” ice cream that’s drawing crowds, sparking debates, and flooding social media with curiosity.

No human milk, Just a clever twist

Despite its eyebrow-raising name, the flavour doesn’t contain human breast milk. Instead, it’s made using liposomal bovine colostrum, a nutrient-rich supplement also present in human milk. This gives the dessert a subtly familiar, creamy profile while keeping it completely safe and legal for all. The creation is part of a collaboration with Frida, a popular parenting brand, and is served in a highly exclusive way, only 50 scoops are given out free each day at OddFellows’ Water Street location.

Mixed reactions from the public

The flavour has quickly become a magnet for adventurous foodies. Charlene Rymsha, visiting from Mammoth Lake, California, stumbled upon the shop en route to the Rockaway Beach ferry. “I was breastfed in the 1970s, but I have no memory of that taste. It still caught me off-guard emotionally,” she told the New York Post.

For some, the idea wasn’t all that radical. Local resident Dale Kaplan, 61, quipped, “Isn’t all ice cream breast milk? It all comes from cow udders anyway.” She still praised the concept, calling it a “tribute to maternity and to cows.”

Others made special trips just to try it. Dale W., who walked over a mile to get a scoop, found the taste “vanilla-ish” and milder than expected. New mum Adi Barnea, visiting with her four-month-old son Tom, compared it to mango more than milk- but declared it “high-quality” and a winning flavour.

Why colostrum is making its way into foods

Bovine colostrum, the first form of milk produced after giving birth- has been gaining popularity in wellness circles for its potential immune-boosting and gut-health benefits. While it’s more commonly found in supplements and powders, OddFellows’ playful take has introduced it to an entirely new audience in the form of ice cream.

By mixing novelty with nostalgia, OddFellows has tapped into both curiosity and controversy, two ingredients that guarantee attention in New York’s competitive food scene.
