As the holy month of Ramadan nears its end, Muslims across the globe prepare for a deeply spiritual day that bids farewell to this blessed period of fasting, reflection, and devotion. This day is Alvida Jummah, also known as Jamat-ul-Wida, and it marks the last Friday before the joyous celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The term "Jumat-ul-Wida" comes from two Arabic words: Juma, which means gathering, and Wida, which translates to farewell. Together, they reflect the spiritual nature of this special day.

When is Alvida Jummah 2025?

This year, Alvida Jummah will be observed on Friday, March 28, 2025. Falling just before the conclusion of Ramadan, this day holds immense significance in the Muslim calendar. It serves as a heartfelt goodbye to the holy month and a reminder to carry forward the lessons of patience, kindness, and devotion learnt during Ramadan month.

Prayer timings on Alvida Jummah in India

Prayer holds significant importance in Islam, and during Ramadan, the Friday prayers, or Jummah Namaz, become especially meaningful. Muslims offer the five daily prayers, and the afternoon prayer, known as Zuhr, transforms into the congregational Jummah Namaz on Fridays.

In India, the timing for Alvida Jummah prayers may vary based on the location. In Delhi, for instance, the Zuhr prayer is expected to begin at 12:33 PM on March 28. At the historic Jama Masjid, the sermon typically commences around 1 PM, followed by the main prayer between 1:30 PM and 2 PM.

Considering the large number of worshippers who gather at mosques on this day, many mosques may conduct multiple prayer sessions between 1 PM and 3 PM to accommodate everyone.

Alvida Jummah significance

Alvida Jummah holds deep importance for Muslims, who gather in mosques to offer special prayers, express gratitude, and seek forgiveness for any shortcomings.

This is also a time when believers reflect on their spiritual journey throughout Ramadan, recite verses from the Holy Quran, and engage in acts of kindness and charity. By helping those in need, praying for peace and prosperity, and seeking forgiveness, Muslims aim to strengthen their faith and continue the values of Ramadan long after the month concludes.
