Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore residents enjoyed their Sunday evening a little more than usual, thanks to a sudden downpour, strong winds, and thunder and lightning that struck the city twice within an hour.

Areas like Annapurna also received a hailstorm.

The day began with bright sunshine, but the heat was not intense. Soon after, clouds started to gather, and it drizzled around 11 am.

Cloudy skies persisted throughout the day, and by 3:30 pm, it rained heavily in most parts of the city.

Some areas like Gandhi Statue, Airport Road, and nearby localities also experienced small hail showers. The sudden change brought relief from the ongoing heat.

With the rains, the current temperature dropped to 26°C, much lower than usual for this time of year.

Ujjain sees drizzles

At the same time Ujjain witnessed low to medium downpours with windstorms occurring in Ujjain at around 5 pm on Sunday. There were also reports of hailstorms from some areas.

Why sudden downpour?

According to the meteorologists, the weather has changed due to the presence of three cyclonic circulations and two troughs. This system is expected to cause strong winds and rain across Madhya Pradesh, including Indore and nearby areas, for the next four days, until May 7.

Weather in past few days

Saturday also saw a dip in temperatures. Over the past 48 hours, both day and night temperatures have dropped by 2°C. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.8°C, which is normal for this season after a week of unusually high temperatures. The night temperature was recorded at 24.5°C, slightly above normal.

Earlier this month, on May 1, the city experienced extreme heat with temperatures reaching 42°C. However, the recent drop in temperature has brought much-needed comfort to residents, especially during the night.
