Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The track-laying work in the tunnel section of the Indore-Dahod new rail line project is set to begin by June-end, marking a major step forward in the long-awaited 204 km railway corridor.
The project, under construction for the past three years, is being completed in phases. With the Indore-Tihi section already operational, work on the Tihi-Dhar section is progressing rapidly.
This includes a 2.9 km long tunnel being built at a cost of ₹270 crore, where finishing work is currently underway.
In the 46 km stretch of the Tihi-Dhar section, activities like railway track laying, earthwork, station building construction, ROBs, and underpasses are being executed at full speed. So far, tunnel lining has been completed for 800 meters.
Over the past month, five machines have been deployed simultaneously in the tunnel. To prevent water leakage, waterproof geo-textile and membrane layers are being applied using gantry systems. A drainage line is also being installed as an added safety measure.
Railway officials aim to complete the tunnel by September and begin train operations between Indore and Dhar by December.
Western Railway CPRO Vineet Abhishek highlighted the significance of the Indore-Dahod rail project, stating that it will reduce the rail distance between Indore and Mumbai. It will also provide rail connectivity to regions like Dhar, Alirajpur, and Jhabua, which have remained disconnected since independence.
The project will boost freight movement from the Pithampur industrial area to ports in Mumbai and southern India. A dedicated rail link from Sagour railway station to the under-construction Multi-Logistics Park, located just 3 km away, is also part of the plan.
