Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a tragic road accident, six people, including three Indore residents were killed while another person from the city sustained severe injuries while travelling from Indore to Puri for darshan of Lord Jagannath.

Police have registered a case against their friend Sagar Yadav (25), who was driving the car, holding him responsible for rash and negligent driving.

The accident took place on the morning of August 15 under Baghnadi police station limits in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh on National Highway-53.

According to police, Sagar, a resident of Naya Basera, Gandhi Nagar was driving his car (MP 09-DH 8684) at high speed when it climbed the divider, swerved into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that five of his friends died on the spot while another succumbed in the hospital.

The deceased were identified as Akash Maurya (28), resident of Phoenix Township; Aman Rathore (26) and Saurabh Yadav (26), both residents of Naya Basera, Gandhi Nagar; Abhishek Patidar (24), resident of Dhar; Govind Patidar (33), resident of Ratlam; and Sangram Keshari Seti (38), resident of Odisha.

All of them were employed with Reliance Insurance Company at its C21 Business Park office near Radisson Square. The injured has been identified as Sagar Yadav, a resident of Naya Basera, Gandhi Nagar.

Police have booked Sagar under Section 281 and 106(1) of the BNS. During questioning, he admitted that he was at the steering while his friends were asleep. ‘The car’s wheel suddenly crossed the divider and before I could realise, the collision occurred,’ he reportedly told police.

Three Indore victims cremated in city on Sunday

On Sunday morning, the bodies of three Indore residents, Akash Maurya, Aman Rathore and Saurabh Yadav were brought to the city. Their last rites were performed at cremation grounds near their residences.

Last conversation at highway dhaba

According to family members, the youths had last spoken to them on Thursday night, when they stopped for dinner at a roadside dhaba in Betul. They had also shared a selfie taken during the halt, which has now become their final memory.

Car was reportedly being driven at 120 km/h

Investigations suggest that the car was reportedly being driven at a speed of over 120 km/h, as the group had planned to return early from their holiday trip. Taking advantage of the extended weekend (Independence Day on Friday and Janmashtami on Saturday), they had set out for Puri but intended to rejoin office duty by Monday or Tuesday. The over speeding turned fatal and left their families devastated.
