Petlawad (Madhya Pradesh): A devastating incident came to light in Madhya Pradesh's Petalwad where a person died and 10 other people fell seriously ill after drinking contaminated water from a well on Saturday.

According to information, several villagers in Bhamal village were observing fast during Ekadashi. During the fast, people were solely dependent on a well water for hydration.

Information revealed, ten villagers, eight of them women fell seriously ill after drinking water from the village's well. People started vomitting and experienced severe stomach ache. All of them were promptly rushed to Choyal Hospital in Petlawad.

However, a 60-year-old man identified as Nahar Singh, resident of Thandla succumbed to the illness during the treatment.

Dr Gopal Choyal, confirmed the remaining 10 patients are under extensive care and are recovering. All the patients reported symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.

Government Response

Local authorities and medical teams sprang into action swiftly. Officers from both Petlawad and Thandla coordinated disaster response efforts. The district health department dispatched a special team to investigate. Water samples have been collected for laboratory testing to pinpoint contaminants.
