Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Thunderstorms and rain are expected in 24 districts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. This will bring relief to the citizens bringing the mercury down for next three days.

However, heatwaves have been forecast to prevail from April 16, again.

What do weathermen say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s senior scientists, the state witnessed recent rains due to western disturbances, cyclonic circulation, and trough activity. As these systems weaken, hot and dry conditions will return.

Regional Meteorological Department

According to the Regional Meteorological Department, the rain relief is part of a broader shift in weather patterns. Several active weather systems are at play — including a western disturbance as a trough running along 74°E north of 26°N at mid-tropospheric levels, along with upper air cyclonic circulations over northwest Rajasthan and northwest Madhya Pradesh. A trough extending from west Rajasthan to coastal Andhra Pradesh is also influencing the weather conditions.

Meteorologists say the current spell of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40–50 km/h) is expected to persist till April 14, affecting parts of western, central, and eastern India.

On Saturday, light rain, thunderstorms, and even hail were reported in several districts on Saturday, including Indore and Dhar. More weather changes are expected until April 15. The intense heat will return after 3 days.

Temperature records

A drop in day temperatures was recorded in many parts of Madhya Pradesh. Among the major cities, Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8°C, Indore 36.8°C, Gwalior 36.7°C, Ujjain 38°C, and Jabalpur 37.6°C.

Khandwa was the hottest place in the state, with the temperature reaching 41.5°C. Other hot spots included Khargone at 40.8°C, Nowgong at 39.7°C, Ratlam and Shivpuri at 39.2°C, Tikamgarh at 39.5°C, Dhar at 39.1°C, while Malajkhand, Guna, and Narsinghpur all recorded 39°C.

Weather for next 2 days

April 13: Weather in 24 districts including Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Datia, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Panna, Katni, Jabalpur, Satna, Maihar, Umaria, Mandla, Dindori, Balaghat, Anuppur, Shahdol, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli may see thunderstorms, dust storms, and rain.

April 14: Light rain with thunder is expected in Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli.
