Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The excitement around Indore’s newly launched Metro rail continues to soar as thousands of citizens thronged the stations on the second day of its operation which coincidentally fell on a Sunday.

Families, students, professionals, and senior citizens from various corners of the city gathered to experience what many described as a “dream come true” moment.

The free ticket offer, valid until June 7, further fuelled the enthusiasm as manual tickets were distributed to eager passengers lining up outside the stations. From toddlers curiously peeking through the windows to elderly citizens marvelling at the smooth ride, the atmosphere on board the metro was festive and vibrant.

According to officials, over 26,000 passengers boarded the metro on Sunday alone, a figure that reflects the overwhelming public response to Madhya Pradesh’s first-ever metro rail service.

The rush was such that all five stations — Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Terminal, Maharani Laxmibai, Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi, Rani Durgavati, and Veerangana Jhalkaribai — witnessed long queues throughout the day.

“This is a historic moment for Indore. I’ve only seen metros in Delhi or Mumbai. Today, I got to experience it right in my own city,” said Meera Sharma, a 65-year-old retired teacher.

Indore became the 24th city in India to launch a metro rail, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the service on Saturday.

With such massive public participation on just the second day, the Indore Metro is already off to a promising and people-powered start, said Metro officials with satisfaction looking at the crowd.
