Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Ahead of the Nag Panchami festival falling on July 29, Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Gupta, ADG Umesh Joga, DIG Navneet Bhasin, Collector Raushan Kumar Singh, and SP Pradeep Sharma on Thursday inspected the darshan arrangements at Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple in Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.

On the festival day, about 10 lakh people are expected to come for darshan at the Lord Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple, which opens only once a year. For this, all the preparations have been completed by the district administration.

The officials inspected the entry route to Shri Mahakaleshwar temple from Karkaraj parking lot, Ganga Garden, Char Dham Mandir parking route, zigzag route, Harisiddhi Square, and Bada Ganesh Mandir. Parking arrangements will be made in Karkaraj parking. The queue for darshan will start from there. The Collector directed adequate barricading on the route. On July 29, the entry and exit routes for darshan at the temple will be separate.

The Collector directed the health department to set up a temporary first aid centre on the temple premises. Instructions were given to keep the announcement system in order on the Nag Panchami festival and to install indicators at various places for the convenience of the devotees. During the review, Mahant Vineet Giri of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee (MTMC) administrator Pratham Kaushik, and officials of the concerned departments were present.

Stability test of temporary bridge conducted

The MTMC conducted a strength and stability test of the temporary bridge that connects Vishram Dham to the temple’s apex. This bridge is used exclusively once a year by devotees to access Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple. As part of the assessment, around 300 security personnel were positioned on the bridge and instructed to perform coordinated movements. This simulated load-bearing activity was aimed at evaluating the structural strength and safety of the bridge under crowd pressure. Present during the inspection were MTMC deputy administrator S.N. Soni and executive engineer of the public works department (buildings and roads) Gautam Ahirwar.

Temporary encroachments removed

An anti-encroachment drive was carried out from Sher Chauraha to the Char Dham Mandir access road on Thursday. This dealt with sheds and raised platforms in front of shops, which significantly narrowed the passage. The Ujjain Municipal Corporation team deployed a bulldozer machine to dismantle and remove the illegal structures.
