Indore (Madhya Pradesh): AB Road, one of Indore city’s main roads, is all set to become 60 meters wide. The Indore Municipal Corporation has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the road widening work, which is expected to cost around ₹90 crore.
If everything goes as planned, people in Indore will start seeing the new and wider AB Road within a year.
The widening plan includes the addition of a cycle track and service lanes. Also, electric poles and stormwater lines will be placed in one line for better management. The Municipal Corporation will soon invite tenders for this project.
Plan approved due to growing traffic
The need to widen AB Road has been felt for a long time due to increasing traffic pressure. In a recent road safety committee meeting chaired by the District Collector, it was agreed to expand the road to 60 meters. After this, a survey was done and the DPR was prepared.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav confirmed the plan and said the estimated cost is ₹90 crore.
According to the DPR, both service lanes and a cycle track will be part of the widened road. The power poles and stormwater pipelines will be realigned in a straight line to avoid chaos and improve flow.
To be funded under smart city fund
Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma said the ₹90 crore cost will be covered under the Smart City Mission fund. He added that once the road is widened, traffic will become smoother and jams will reduce.
Before work can begin, the BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) corridor on AB Road needs to be removed, following a court order. A divider will also be built as part of the widening work. The Municipal Corporation has set a one-year target to complete the entire project.
According to Public Works Committee in-charge Rajendra Rathore, the agency to remove BRTS will be finalised soon.
