Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Kamla Nehru Prani Sanghralaya continues to have regular addition of rare and exotic species under the Animal Exchange Programme.

Now, the zoo is preparing to welcome the majestic wild buffalo, adding to the charm and diversity of its animal collection. The animals are expected to arrive in June or the beginning of Monsoon.

According to Nihar Parulekar Zoo Education Officer, the management has initiated the process to bring in two pairs of wild buffalo from a zoo in Karnataka.

In exchange, the Indore zoo will be sending a pair of lions. The paperwork for this exchange is nearly complete, and the final approval from the Central Zoo Authority is awaited. Once granted, the wild buffalo will soon be a part of the zoo’s expanding animal family.

The arrival of these powerful animals is expected to significantly boost the zoo’s appeal. Wild buffalo, one of the largest wild bovine species in India, generally weighs between 1,500 to 3,000 kilograms and is especially popular among children due to its massive build and striking presence.

Notably, the zoo had received zebras under the same exchange programme, which have become a major attraction among visitors.

With the addition of the wild buffalo, the zoo continues to grow as a hub for wildlife enthusiasts and families looking for an engaging experience with nature.
