Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Indore Metro Rail project, along with the newly developed Datia and Satna airports, via video conferencing during his visit to Bhopal on May 31.
This event coincides with the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar.
Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced that the Prime Minister will participate in a women empowerment programme and address a large gathering of nearly two lakh women during the commemorative event.
The inaugural phase of the Indore Metro, known as the Super Priority Corridor, spans 5.9 kilometres, connecting Gandhi Nagar Depot to Super Corridor Station No 3.
This stretch includes five stations and is designed to accommodate six-coach trains, although initial operations will utilise three-coach configurations, each capable of carrying approximately 900 passengers. Operations are scheduled daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with trains running at 30-minute intervals, totalling 50 trips per day.

To encourage ridership, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has introduced a promotional fare structure:
First Week: Free rides for all passengers
Second Week: 75% discount on fares
Third Week: 50% discount
Next Three Months: 25% discount
Post the promotional period, fares will range from Rs 20 to Rs 60, based on distance travelled.
Project Background and Future Expansion
The foundation stone for the Rs7,500.80 crore Indore Metro project was laid on September 14, 2019. Phase 1 encompasses a 31.5 km circular corridor, with the Yellow Line (Line-3) being the primary route under construction.
This line will eventually connect key areas including Palasia, the Railway Station, Rajwada, the Airport, and Bhawarsala, featuring a mix of elevated and underground sections across 29 stations.
The project aims to enhance urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a sustainable mode of transportation for Indore's residents.
