Indore: The newborn stolen from Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital on November 15 was miraculously found abandoned at the Sanyogitaganj police station on Friday morning. Police have admitted the baby to NICU of MY Hospital.
WHO LEFT THE BABY
Sanyogitaganj police station in-charger Rajeev Tripathi said that the baby was spotted in the premises by a sanitation worker at around 6.45 am, wrapped in a piece of cloth. The baby was wearing the same dress in which he was stolen. Soon after the baby was recovered and identified as the stolen baby, the police started checking the footage of the CCTV cameras in the area to identify the person who left the baby at the spot. They came to know that a woman had been spotted around the area with a baby. On checking footage of the CCTV camera installed at a nearby liquor shop, the police spotted a woman with a baby going towards the spot where the baby was found. Her face was covered with a stole. She was seen moving towards Ushaganj and now the police are looking at other footages to see where the woman was going.
HOW IS THE BABY DOING?
According to Superintendent of MY Hospital Dr PS Thakur, they are examining the baby thoroughly to see whether he is healthy or not. “Baby’s saturation is normal but he is under observation as he has some cold. We will ask the family to recognise the baby after his conditions turns normal,” Dr Thakur said.
POLICE CLAIM SUCCESS
DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra said it was only due to the intense pressure mounted by the police while searching for the stolen baby that the miscreants had got scared and returned the baby. "We will trace the woman who left the baby at the police station premises. We are close to reaching her," said the DIG.
FAMILY MEMBERS CONGRATULATE POLICE
The family members of the baby reached the police station and they felicitated TI Rajeev Tripathi on Friday noon. They also thanked police for their untiring efforts in searching for the baby. TI Tripathi assured the family that they will arrest the woman who stole their baby.
THE INCIDENT
The baby was stolen by a woman who pretended to a nurse and gained the trust of the family members and took away the baby from them on Sunday evening. She told the family members that the baby's heartbeat was slow and it required emergency care.
“The mother and baby were admitted to Bed No 9 of Ward No 3 on the first floor of the hospital. A woman came to the ward in nurse’s attire and started checking the health conditions of all the babies. She checked our baby and told me that he has a low heart rate and required emergency care,” Baby’s grandmother Raju Bai said. The woman took the baby downstairs with his grandmother and later told the grandmother to bring some receipt. “She asked me to hand over the baby to her and to get the receipt. When I returned after getting the receipt, she was gone with the baby,” she said.
REWARD OF RS 10,000 ANNOUNCED
Police, STF, and other agencies were investigating the case and Superintendent of Police (East) Vijay Khatri had announced reward of Rs 10,000 on the arrest of the accused.
