Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state excise department busted an Illegal liquor transportation racket on Saturday. Acting on a tip off a team of officials raided a flat in Diamond Karolbagh Society and seized expensive English liquor worth Rs 3 lakh brought from Haryana state. A man was also caught in the raid. The liquor was transported in a bus from Haryana to Indore and other cities for sale.
According to Excise controller and ADEO Devesh Chaturvedi, information was received that some people were bringing liquor from Haryana in huge quantity to sell it at a cheap price in the city.
A team of ADEO Chaturvedi, excise SI Manmohan Sharma, Rajesh Tiwari and Ashish Jain raided a flat in Diamond Karolbagh Society and caught a man named Nitesh Mukesh. During a search, 21 cartons of premium beer and two boxes of premium liquor were also recovered from the flat. The accused allegedly informed the officials that he is an autorickshaw driver and had also received the consignment twice a few months ago. The alcohol was brought to the city in a passenger bus. However, the bus couldn’t be seized but the officials claimed that it would be traced and seized soon. Nitesh is being questioned further.
Role of arrested accused
Preliminary investigation revealed that Nitesh’s role was to unload liquor from the bus. He was told by the prime accused to receive the consignment to deliver it to a designated place. He had stored the liquor in the flat that was raided by excise officials. The value of the seized liquor is Rs 3 lakh. The liquor was loaded from Haryana by the gang that supplies liquor to other states in contravention of the law as the liquor is cheaper in Haryana. Excise officials are gathering information from the accused about the prime accused in the city. The officials also got to know that the gang also supplies liquor to in dry state of Gujarat. However, the investigation is ongoing and the exact information would be known only after the arrest of the prime accused. Also, information about the flat owner is also being gathered by the officers.
Haryana liquor caught many times in city
It was not the first time when the excise officials caught the liquor transported from Haryana in the city but many people were arrested while they were supplying liquor from Haryana in the city. A huge quantity of liquor was also seized from them. The excise officials are also investigating whether the accused were associated with earlier arrested accused. It is believed that many members of the gang would be arrested in connection with the same.
