Alirajpur (Madhya Pradesh): A family in Alirajpur district performed Pind Daan (funeral rites) for their living daughter on Friday after she married outside their community.
Pallavi Rajput from Udaigarh village had been in love with Siddharth Baser from the Kalal community for two years. On July 3, she left home, saying she was going to college for exams, but never returned. Her family filed a missing person’s report when she did not come back by evening.
During police investigation, a video statement from Pallavi surfaced. She confirmed she had got married and would not return to Udaigarh, fearing for her safety. The couple had a court marriage, though the exact date remains unknown to the family.
Refusing to accept the marriage, Pallavi's family decided to cut all ties with her. They printed a shok patrika and set up a funeral tent outside their house. Religious priests and relatives were called for the ceremony.
The family placed a garland on Pallavi's photograph, marking July 3, 2025 as her ‘death date’ - the day she left home. Her younger brother Aditya had his head shaved as part of a mourning ritual, following traditional funeral customs.
The family declared they have ended all relationships with Pallavi and will not maintain contact with anyone who associates with her.
