Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh): A 62-year-old woman was murdered in a multi-storey apartment on Ambedkar Road near Bansal Square on Friday night. Her blood-soaked body was discovered by his husband after he returned home from his shop.
The deceased was identified as Leelabai Goyal. She was found lying on her bed with deep injuries to her neck and head caused by a sharp weapon.
The scene came to light around 8.30 pm, when Leelabai’s husband, Girdharilal Goyal, returned home and found the main door open. As he entered the house, he saw his wife’s body covered in blood and immediately alerted the police.
SP Ankit Jaiswal, ASP Naval Singh Sisodia and Cantt police station in-charge Pushpa Singh Chauhan rushed to the spot with their teams. The body was sent to the district hospital for postmortem. The initial investigations suggest the attack occurred while Leelabai was alone at home.
Other family members who were at their family-run shop of plastic disposables, rushed to the flat as soon as they got the news.
Police have seized CCTV footage and DVR equipment from the building. A masked suspect has been spotted in the surveillance video taking the lift to the victim’s apartment. A forensic team from Ratlam reached the scene late at night to gather evidence.
Police initially speculated that it was a robbery gone wrong, but they found nothing valuable missing. The footage indicates that murder was the sole motive, though all other angles are also being investigated.
This is the second murder in the Goyal family. Around 35 years ago, deceased's father-in-law, Dwarkaprasad Goyal, was also found murdered similarly. That case is still unsolved.
