Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday strongly condemned the incident involving the gherao of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) vice chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai’s car by self-finance non-teaching employees, who have been on indefinite strike, calling it against Indore’s dignity.’
BJP leaders, including Indore-2 MLA Ramesh Mendola, Indore-3 MLA Golu Shukla and city party president Sumit Mishra, met with the vice chancellor at his office to facilitate a dialogue between the university administration and a delegation of the striking employees.
A three-member delegation of the employees did respond and participated in the talks, leading to initial understanding on some demands. The university administration subsequently prepared a list of demands that could be immediately addressed.
One member of the teachers’ associations on the UTD, Prof Suresh Patidar condemned the use of foul language against faculty members and the VC and demanded an unconditional apology. One member of the employee delegation expressed regret over the misbehaviour with both the VC and teachers.

After peace was brokered, registrar Ajay Verma and deputy registrar Rachna Thakur visited the protest site to present the list.
However, the striking employees disowned the delegation, claiming it was unauthorised to negotiate on their behalf. They rejected the administration's proposal and reiterated their decision to continue the strike until all 14 demands are met.
Prof Rakesh Singhai, VC, DAVV
“We have extended the offer for talks twice, but the striking employees have not responded. We remain open to dialogue and are ready to accept justified demands. They are part of the DAVV family, and I hope we can resolve this within the family soon.”
Ramesh Mendola, MLA, Indore-2 seat
The incident of gheraoing the VC and forcing him to walk was uncalled for and is gainst Indore’s dignity. The administration is considering the demands seriously, and we are hopeful the strike will end soon.
Golu Shukla, MLA, Indore-3 seat
The misbehaviour with the VC did not reflect well on the striking employees. I believe they will be more mindful in the future. We urge both parties to resolve the issues amicably.
Sumit Mishra, city chief, BJP
The university has the capacity and capability to resolve its issues. The employees are also unwilling to stretch the strike. We are hopeful that the strike will end soon. Sumit Mishra, city chief, BJP
