Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The third Somwar of Shravan (July 28) witnessed the grand procession of Lord Shiva, the third ‘Mahakal Sawar in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The religious rally started at 4 pm, with thousands of devotees and pandits chanting 'Har Har Mahadev'.

As per tradition, Lord Shri Mahakal ventured out among his devotees in a divine trio of forms, as Chandramouleshwar in a palki (palanquin), as Manmahesh seated on an elephant, and as Shiv-Tandav on the Garuda Rath, blessing the city and symbolically learning about the wellbeing of his people.

The event followed the centuries-old tradition of taking out Baba Mahakal’s Sawari every Monday during the holy month of Shravan.

The procession began after the ritual worship of Lord Chandramouleshwar inside the temple’s Sabha Mandap.

After the puja, Lord Mahakal was seated in the royal palanquin, and the Sawari started from the temple premises. As the palanquin reached the main entrance, armed police personnel presented a Guard of Honour to Baba Mahakal.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav once again welcomed Baba Mahakal’s Sawari, this time by playing the Damru along the Sawari Marg, joining thousands of devotees who had gathered to witness the divine procession.

As per temple administration, Gate No. 4 of the Mahakal temple remained closed for devotees throughout the day.

The decision was taken in view of Nag Panchami falling on the following Tuesday, when devotees would be allowed to visit the Nagchandreshwar temple, which opens only once a year.

Devotees were to enter through Gate No. 4 via Chardham and Bada Ganesh.

To manage the crowd, barricading was set up near Bada Ganesh temple, and devotees were advised to use other designated gates for darshan to avoid inconvenience.

The spiritual atmosphere, vibrant devotion, and disciplined management turned the third Mahakal Sawari into yet another grand and memorable event in Ujjain.
