Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old man died after falling from the under-construction Malwa Mill Bridge in Pardesipura police station area on Sunday night.
The accident occurred when he was travelling towards Patnipura Square from Malwa Mill Square and fell from the incomplete bridge, sustaining severe injuries. He was taken to MY Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Golu alias Radheshyam Kushwaha, a native of Indorama, Pithampur who had been living in Bhagirathpura. His family members claimed that the absence of barricades led to the accident as Golu while riding towards the bridge, fell into the culvert.
Leader of Opposition in Indore Municipal Corporation Chintu Choksey alleged negligence on the part of the IMC, stating, ‘If the contractor had installed proper barricades, such incidents could have been prevented.
Similar incidents have happened before, but no action has been taken.’ He appealed to the mayor and IMC commissioner to take strict action against the concerned engineer and contractors.
Meanwhile, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav expressed grief over the death and said he had ordered an investigation into the bridge’s construction. He said that the inquiry would determine the exact circumstances of the incident and necessary action would be taken based on the findings.
