Kolkata: Chaos started on Thursday after a History question paper referred to the freedom fighters as ‘Terrorists’ in Midnapore based Vidyasagar University.
The question paper said, “Name three district magistrates of Midnapore who were killed by terrorists.”
The question sparked controversy as a part of historical significance of undivided Midnapore, it has given several freedom fighters like Khudiram Bose, Matangini Hazra to name a few who fought bravely against the British during the freedom movement.
Incidentally, the University is named after Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar who also hailed from Midnapore and started widow-remarriage in India.

“Soon after it came to my notice, I want to say we regret the error and are apologizing. We are inquiring how this mistake happened and also held a meeting with the teachers of all departments and also the computer department as the question paper was typed,” said the Vice Chancellor of the university.

Local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders had written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state Education Minister Bratya Basu to penalize the person who had made the mistake.
