Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday had mentioned that in keeping with the order of the Supreme Court, the state government will issue fresh notification of SSC recruitment and also that the government will continue the fight for the review petition.

“Several additional posts have been created and I will ask everyone to apply for the examination. No one should say that they will not sit for the examination. We will pursue both the options of making a fresh notification and also pursue the review petition. Whichever will save the jobs we will adhere to it. We were waiting as the review petition is pending due to the summer vacation in the Supreme Court,” said Mamata.

Notably, the protesting teachers have been saying that they will not sit for any fresh examination as they got their jobs through merit.

The Chief Minister also stated that on May 30, complying with the order of the apex court the notification will be floated.

“There is no age limit and everyone can apply. People can apply between June 16 to July online, On November 15 the final selection panel will be published and on November 20 counselling process will start. We will add a few more departments and people can apply in those departments as well,” further mentioned Mamata.

Retired IAS officer and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar said, “The Chief Minister should specify that only those who had lost their jobs can apply? Or fresh candidates can also apply?”

Sacked teachers however, are ‘unhappy’ with the decision taken by the Chief Minister.

Chinmoy Mondal, a protesting sacked teacher, said that they were being subjected to ‘politics’.

“The mentality of the candidates has changed. The mental preparation that we had 10 years back is not the same in 2025. Several candidates have other hurdles in personal life. It is not possible to sit for the examination again,” added Mondal.
