Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday addressed the Samuhik Vivah Samaroh held at the Fertilizer Plant campus in Gorakhpur, where 1,200 couples were married under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. This was the first such event after the financial support was raised from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh per couple.

The CM emphasized the role of good governance in delivering welfare to the doorstep of the poor. “True governance solves people’s problems at their homes,” he said, noting that the mass marriage scheme helps eliminate harmful social practices such as dowry, child marriage, and economic barriers to marriage.

Of the Rs 1 lakh support, Rs 60,000 is transferred to the bride’s account via DBT. The remaining Rs 40,000 covers wedding arrangements, household items, gifts, and other needs. The CM noted that such assistance reduces the financial burden on underprivileged families and promotes dignity and security for women.

Yogi also discussed the Kanya Sumangala Yojana, which provides phased financial support to girls from birth to higher education. So far, 24 lakh girls in UP have benefited. He emphasized the importance of empowering daughters through education and financial independence, tying these schemes to broader national goals.

He recalled that prior to 2017, support was limited to Rs 20,000, with delays and bias. Under the revised scheme, greater transparency and inclusion have been ensured. He cited national welfare data, housing for 4 crore families, free LPG connections for 10 crore households, and Ayushman Bharat health benefits reaching 50 crore people.

On rural development, the CM pointed to the Pradhan Mantri Svamitva Yojana, which has resolved land rights issues for over 1 crore families in UP. He also mentioned the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana, which offers interest-free loans up to Rs 10 lakh to young entrepreneurs, as well as support schemes for street vendors.

Concluding the event, the CM congratulated the newlyweds and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to uplift every family. He encouraged people to reject outdated practices like dowry and untouchability and stressed the importance of communal harmony. Public representatives, officials, and religious leaders from various communities participated in the event.

The CM personally blessed several couples, handed over Shagun Kits, and reviewed the arrangements. The event was attended by ministers, MLAs, and BJP officials.

Financial Aid to Curb Societal Evils

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Sindurdan will now be included in the gift package provided under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. The income cap for eligible families has also been raised from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh.

A new government order confirms the enhancement of total support to ₹1 lakh per couple. Eligibility will require UP residence, verified through documents such as birth certificate, voter ID, or Aadhaar. Priority will be given to orphans, daughters of widows, and those from families with disabilities.

Under the scheme, ₹60,000 will be deposited directly into the bride’s account via DBT. An additional ₹25,000 worth of household gifts will be provided, while ₹15,000 will be allocated for the wedding ceremony.

Religious officiants’ honorarium regardless of community will be covered. For large ceremonies involving 100 or more couples, high-quality German hangars will be arranged under district-level supervision
