Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday had objected to the release of Bollywood movie Kesari 2 till it is changed as Bengali freedom fighters are ‘disrespected’ in the movie.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee taking potshots at the central government said that they should be ‘ashamed’ for changing the name of Bengali freedom fighters.
“The contribution of Bengal is maximum for Independence. Now they are making a movie where the Bengali freedom fighter’s names are changed,” said Mamata.
Slamming the Union government further, Mamata questioned why the ‘Planning Commission’ started by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was stopped by the present government?
“Before coming to power, they said that they would find out what happened to Netaji. Even now they could not do anything. They made ‘Niti Aayog’ where there is neither niti nor Aayog,” further stated Mamata.
Earlier this day TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “Khudiram Bose is said to be ‘Khudiram Singh’ and Birendra Kumar Ghosh as ‘Birendra Kumar’. If such distortions are not changed then the movie should not be released.”
Notably, Kesari Chapter 2, which is currently streaming on JioHotstar.
One Ranjit Biswas, a resident of Bidhannagar South, accused that the film had distorted historical facts related to West Bengal’s freedom struggle.
The police have registered a case under Sections 352 (intentional insult), 353(1) (c) (public mischief), and 353 (2) (circulating false statements or information) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
