Kolkata: Reacting to the West Bengal Budget, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday termed it "directionless" and said it fails to address the issue of unemployment.

"This budget is directionless and does not address the core problem of unemployment...They are only spending money on 'Rewari politics'...When the BJP government is formed (in West Bengal), we will give DA at the central level," he said.

West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari asserted that the BJP will win West Bengal in the next election, following recent victories in Odisha and Delhi after 27 years.

He adds, "...Next year, the BJP will present the budget here. We won in Odisha and Delhi after 27 years. Now we will win West Bengal next year."

Earlier on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress government-led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee presented its last full-fledged budget before the 2026 assembly elections, with a strong emphasis on social welfare and women empowerment.

Minister of State for Finance (independent charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya tabled a Rs 3.89-lakh crore budget for 2025-26 in the assembly.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the state budget, stated, "Our vision is clear: we aim to boost employment. There are some ongoing disputes in Tajpur, but the Finance Minister will resolve them soon. The Jagannath Temple at Digha is ready, and its inauguration has been scheduled for April 30th."

On the subject of the state budget, she added, "The Central government has not provided any funds for the Gangasagar Mela. Additionally, for the Gangasagar Sethu-- the proposed five-kilometer-long bridge connecting the mainland to Sagar Island--an extra allocation of Rs 500 crore has been made for this project."
