The Uttar Pradesh Legislature’s monsoon session begins tomorrow with the Yogi Adityanath government planning an unprecedented 27-hour continuous sitting to debate its Vision Document 2047.
The session will run from August 11 to 16, with Independence Day on August 15 as a holiday. The government is expected to table several key legislative proposals during the proceedings.
Opposition parties have criticised the duration of the sitting and the overall length of the session. “This is practically a three-day session called only to push some bills. We will use the time to raise people’s issues,” said Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey.
Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra accused the government of ignoring the plight of flood-hit residents. “Large parts of the state are submerged. People are living in makeshift tents without basic facilities. The government must answer why they are being deprived of essentials,” she said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna countered that the government is ready to face all questions. “We will not run away,” he said.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Adityanath chaired an all-party meeting at Vidhan Bhavan to finalise preparations. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, senior ministers, and legislators from across parties attended. The Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Mahana, had earlier set the agenda.

The special sitting — from 11 am on August 13 to 2 pm on August 14 — will be held simultaneously in both the Legislative Council and Assembly. Lawmakers will also participate in a workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) to explore its use in legislative work.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav ridiculed the idea, saying: “Why have a three-day session? Make it three hours instead. You did no work in nine years, and now you want people to stay awake for 24 hours. What madness is this?”
Ahead of the session, the chief minister inaugurated refurbished facilities at Vidhan Bhavan, including the entrance dome, main assembly hall, and Committee Room No. 15.
