Uttar Pradesh has shown notable progress in its performance on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In a recent review, the state's SDG score increased from 42 in 2018–19 to 67 in 2023–24, marking a 25-point jump. This improvement has shifted the state from the 'Performer' to the 'Front Runner' category.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh has advanced from 29th to 18th position in the national SDG Index, indicating a substantial improvement compared to other states during this period.

This progress is attributed to a clear policy direction, effective implementation of various schemes, and public participation. The state has made advancements across various areas of sustainable development in recent years. This achievement reflects tangible changes in the lives of individuals, reaching even the most underserved segments of society.

The progress has been supported by the implementation of schemes focused on providing access to water and electricity in every household, promoting girls' education, and enhancing health and nutrition programs. Initiatives aimed at women's safety and empowerment have also contributed to increased social awareness, while primary schools have seen improvements in basic facilities. Access to healthcare and nutrition, particularly in rural areas, has also improved.

Officials have been directed to implement SDGs with a focused approach at the local level. This includes ensuring that information about all schemes reaches Gram Panchayats and that benefits are delivered to intended beneficiaries in a timely manner.

Achieving SDG targets is a shared responsibility across all departments, districts, and Panchayats.

Emphasis has also been placed on the importance of accurate and timely data collection, as reliable data is considered foundational for measuring true progress and making effective policy decisions.

Directives have been issued to prepare and publish SDG profiles for all districts to ensure a clear picture of developmental outcomes.
