Kushinagar: A 30-year-old mentally challenged woman was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on Tuesday night. The incident took place in Arjun Dumri village under the jurisdiction of Hata police station.
The deceased has been identified as Madhuri. The police received a call at around 7 pm that the body of a woman was lying in a paddy field near the village panchayat building. The police were being told that Madhuri had been attacked by a pack of stray dogs.
After receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot. Dogs were chased away. Hata SHO Ramsahay Chauhan said that the woman was mentally challenged and had likely gone behind the panchayat building for some reason on Tuesday, reported PTI.
Later, dogs were found mauling her body. As per the villagers, Madhuri used to roam around the village and went missing on Monday. Her family started searching for her when she did not return home. On Tuesday, Madhuri’s body was found.
As per the villagers, there is a stray dog menace in the area. The body has been sent for postmortem.
Notably, it is the second incident of attack by stray dogs in the area in 36 hours. On Monday, an eight-year-old boy was attacked by a stray dog when he was playing outside his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha, reported News18. The incident was caught on the CCTV camera. The boy reportedly sustained injuries to his arms and legs.

These incidents took place after the Supreme Court ordered the authorities in Delhi-NCR to remove the stray dogs from the streets and shift them to the shelters. The top court took suo motu cognisance of the matter. The ruling drew criticism from the dog activists. Meanwhile, some are supporting the move.
