Noida: A bizarre banking anomaly in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district has left residents and even tech tools baffled. A staggering 37-digit figure, estimated to be over ₹1.13 lakh crore, was mysteriously credited to the account of a deceased woman in Dankaur. The incident has not only frozen the bank account but also sparked a wave of speculation and curiosity across the region.
The late Gayatri Devi, a resident of Uchhi Dankaur mohalla, passed away two months ago. Her unemployed son, Deepak Kumar, had been using the UPI services linked to her bank account. On Monday, while trying to make a UPI transaction, Deepak noticed that the payment failed repeatedly. Suspicious, he checked the account balance — and was stunned.
What he saw was a 37-digit number displayed as the account balance, a sum so astronomical that neither calculators nor advanced AI tools like Meta’s platforms could decipher it.
“I kept trying to make a payment, but it wouldn’t go through. When I checked the balance, I was shocked. The number was beyond comprehension,” said Deepak.
Bank Staff Stunned, Account Frozen
Shaken, Deepak rushed to the local branch of Kotak Mahindra Bank in Dankaur to seek clarification. Bank officials were reportedly stunned themselves. However, they gave him no explanation and simply informed him that the account had been frozen.
According to rough estimates, the sum reflected in the account was over ₹1,13,56,000 crore — an amount believed to be far greater than the combined annual budgets of several nations. Locals began comparing the figure to the total assets of global banks and economies.
Viral in the Neighbourhood
News of the mysterious transaction spread rapidly across the Dankaur area. Deepak shared the details with relatives and friends, who attempted to calculate the exact sum using various tools — from calculators to AI-powered apps — but all failed due to the absurd length of the number.
“It became the talk of the town. People gathered in groups trying to make sense of the number. Some joked that even if all the banks of the world pooled their money, they wouldn’t match it,” a neighbour said.
Possible Typing Error?
While no official explanation has been provided, experts and locals suspect it may be a technical glitch or typing error in the banking system. Still, the fact that such an error appeared in the account of a deceased woman only added to the intrigue.
Acting Dankaur police station in-charge Surendra Singh said, “We have no official information about this case yet. If such an incident has occurred, we will initiate an investigation.”
As the account remains frozen and the mystery deepens, the incident has once again highlighted the vulnerabilities of digital banking systems — and how a stray error can spark nationwide curiosity and confusion.
