A report by a YouTuber exposing the unhygienic conditions of flats constructed under the PMAY scheme in Delhi's Ashok Vihar has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The footage reveals piles of garbage accumulating on the building premises, with rubbish strewn across the staircases.

The video clips have gone viral social media, with many users criticising the residents for the building's deteriorating state. The report claims that these flats were allocated to slum dwellers in January this year.

One social media user commented, "The Modi government built free flats for slum dwellers. Look at the current condition - they've effectively turned these flats back into slums." Another respondent remarked, "This proves the saying 'nakal ke liye bhi akal chahiye' (even copying requires intelligence). High-rise buildings require constant maintenance and round-the-clock services like cleaners, plumbers and electricians. Can these impoverished residents afford such costs? If they could, they wouldn't have been living in slums in the first place."

The comment continued, "It's not entirely their fault - this represents a government failure. Officials try replicating models from countries like China without studying how the Chinese government maintains such settlements. Building these homes for unemployed individuals simply benefits contractors while wasting public resources. Provide people with livelihood opportunities instead, and they'll voluntarily leave slums to build their own homes."

Another user observed, "What's needed is a mindset change, which only comes through education and basic civic sense - qualities many slum dwellers currently lack. They require proper training on communal living." A further comment noted, "While flats were given freely and dignity was supposedly granted, many have recreated slum conditions. This proves mindset matters more than welfare schemes."
