Tiruvallur: Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday, June 24, condemned an assault by a police officer on three women, including a five-month pregnant woman, inside the Kanakammachathiram police station in Tiruvallur district.

According to reports, the woman had reportedly gone to file a complaint of sexual harassment when the incident took place.

Sharing a disturbing video on X (formerly Twitter), Nagenthran alleged that a policeman brutally attacked the women, accusing the officer of having accepted bribes from the accused before turning on the complainants.

“A video has surfaced, causing great shock, showing a police officer brutally attacking three women, including a five-month pregnant woman… Where did the police officer get the audacity to accept bribes from the accused and mercilessly assault the victims?” his post read.

Have a look at his entire statement and the video here:

He went on to question the moral fabric of the police force under the current administration, asking, “If the police, who are supposed to protect victims from criminals, are the ones attacking the victims, it is unclear where to seek justice in the Dravidian model of governance.”

Nagenthran urges for immediate action

Nagenthran urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to personally intervene in the matter, demanding an impartial investigation and stringent action against the officer involved.

“I strongly urge the Honorable Chief Minister, Mr @mkstalin, to immediately intervene in this incident that questions the dignity of the police force… The officer, in a display of arrogance and power, acted as a source of anarchy by attacking three women,” he said.

The BJP leader's post drew significant attention online, with netizens commenting on police accountability in the incident and the safety of complainants in state-run institutions.

The Tamil Nadu government is yet to respond to the allegations.
