Surat: In a shocking incident that has ignited widespread condemnation, a Surat police officer was caught on CCTV brutally assaulting three young men at a fast food shop in Saudagarwad, under the jurisdiction of Lal Gate police station.

After the CCTV went viral on the social media platforms, the DCP has ordered an investigation into the entire incident on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday, June 28, 2025, when a PCR One unit policeman entered Bombay Fast Food and, without warning, began slapping and abusing the shopkeepers and staff. The footage, which has since gone viral, shows a disturbing scene of unchecked police aggression.

In the video, the officer is seen entering the partially shuttered shop and slapping Wasim Syed’s brother four times, followed by a slap to Wasim Syed, the shop owner. He then proceeded to the back of the shop and hit another worker three times, totaling seven slaps in less than two minutes.

The audio recorded on the CCTV clearly captures the officer hurling abuse, not just at the men but reportedly also targeting their families with foul language. Meanwhile, the three victims are seen pleading, apologizing, and even falling at the policeman’s feet in an attempt to stop the assault.

“Legal action could have been taken if they were violating curfew, but taking the law into one’s own hands is completely unacceptable,” said a local eyewitness.

Following the outcry, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinakin Parmar ordered a full-scale inquiry into the incident.

“We had issued repeated warnings to close the shop on time, but operating it secretly behind shutters was wrong. However, we are taking the assault incident very seriously. A departmental inquiry has been initiated,” said DCP Parmar.

While authorities argue that violating the shop’s operating hours was a legitimate concern, public reaction has focused on police misuse of power and physical aggression.

“This is not law enforcement—this is public humiliation. We demand strict action,” said Suhail Khan, a community activist from the area.
