Bengaluru: The Special Court for People's Representative has proclaimed Prajwal Revanna, former MP from Hassan and grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda as guilty in one of the rape cases filed against him.
The Special Court Judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat, who completed the trial in a record seven months period will be announcing the quantum of punishment on Saturday.
The case is pertaining to a woman from K R Nagar in Mysuru district, who was working as domestic help in the house of Revanna. The sexual assault is said to have taken place during COVID-19 lockdown period. Apart from the rape case, another case of kidnapping the same woman to prevent her from approaching the SIT formed to probe multiple rape cases against Prajwal Revanna. Prajwal Revanna's parents Revanna, Bhavani Revanna and seven others are accused in that case.
The SIT was formed after a Pen Drive containing videos from Prajwal Revanna's mobile phone, where he had recorded mating sexual assault on multiple women went viral. The incident took place during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, while Prajwal was one seeking re-election from Hassan. However, Prajwal Revanna lost the election and the domestic help was one of the women, whose video of sexual assault had been recorded in his mobile phone.
After the contents went viral, several petitions were filed both in the court as well as to the government. The government formed a SIT to probe into the case.
In this case, the SIT charged Prajwal under 376 (2)(k), 276 (2)(n), 354(a), 354(b), 354(c), 506 and 201, which include rape, outraging the modesty, criminal intimidation and destroying the evidence.
The bail application filed by Prajwal Revanna in these cases were rejected even by the Karnataka High Court. Prajwal Revanna is in jail for the last 14 months.
