Jaipur: Amid the tension with India and Pakistan, the Udaipur marble processors have decided to stop the import from Türkiye in the wake of its support to Pakistan during the recent conflict. The Udaipur Marble Processors Committee has written the PM Narendra Modi to take strict action against Türkiye.
"We are one of the biggest markets of Turkish marble and have decided to stop the trade with Türkiye until further decision and have urged the PM to take firm action against Türkiye and all other nations who have supported the Pakistan during the recent conflict, "said Kapil Surana, the president of the Udaipur Marble Processors Committee adding that the committee is in touch with other associations as well regarding boycott of Türkiye.
Surana said that India imports about 14 to 16 lakh tons of marble from and 70 percent of this is from Türkiye. In Udaipur alone, there are around 125 processing units and 40–50 of them import the marble from Türkiye.
In the letter to PM Modi, the Committee has said that the India imports most of its marble from Türkiye, despite this, the country is treating India with hostility.
“The committee appeals to the government to stop the trade with Türkiye and all other nations who have supported Pakistan. We extend our full support to the government regarding any of such decisions,” reads the letter.
Notably, Udaipur is one of the biggest markets of marble along with Kishangarh, Rajsamand and Chittorgarh and processers here said that Türkiye has emerged as a major supplier of marble to India as the product is cost-effective and has good range of colors, but to teach a lesson to it, the government should come up with some strong action.
