Chandigarh: Three members of a family were injured, two of them seriously, late on Friday night after a crashing projectile from a Pakistani drone destroyed by the Indian air defence system fell on a house in a residential area of village Khai Pheme Ke in the border district of Ferozepur.
The incident was said to be the first such case of injuries caused in a suspected drone attack in the state.
According to official information, the injured were identified as Lakhwinder Singh, 55, his wife Sukhwinder Kaur, 50, and their son Jaswant Singh, 24.
The couple, who suffered about 90% burns, were on Saturday rushed to a Ludhiana hospital. Jaswant suffered injuries from splinters.
Stating that the incident took place late on friday night in the said village located around 12 km from the district headquarters, officials said that the projectile which fell on the house of Lakhwinder Singh also damaged the part of house and caused fire gutting a car.
The police said that the defence forces neutralised most of the drones, though this was the only incident where three civilians sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, Cabinet ministers Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Hardeep Singh Mundian who visited the Ferozepur district to assess the situation in border areas also visited the local hospital to meet the injured family members and assured them every possible assistance from the state government.
