After the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, life returned to normalcy as markets reopened and people raised slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” in the border districts of Rajasthan on Saturday evening.
Following drone attacks in the border districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer on Friday night and Saturday morning, the administration had issued a Red Alert in all the districts of Rajasthan that share an international border with Pakistan.
However, after the ceasefire announcement, the administration called off the Red Alert and blackout. Subsequently, markets began to reopen.
In Barmer and Jaisalmer, people took to the streets in groups, chanting slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.” They welcomed the ceasefire decision, stating, “Though we were prepared for any kind of situation—as war-like conditions are not new to us—we welcome the decision.”
Earlier in the morning, remains of Pakistani drones and missiles were found at several locations in Barmer, Phalodi, and Jaisalmer. Police recovered debris from multiple sites in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Pokhran.
Loud explosions were also heard in various rural areas of Jaisalmer district on Saturday. The blasts were so intense that they were audible even in urban areas. The cause of these explosions remains unclear, though local villagers reported hearing such sounds over the past several days.
Considering the situation, the government had issued a Red Alert in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar, and Bikaner. Entry into Barmer was restricted, and the administration appealed to the public to stay indoors.
In Bikaner, a Red Alert was declared in the border area of Nal, which houses an Air Force Station located about 8 km from the city.
Although Jodhpur is not a border city, a Red Alert was issued there Saturday morning following intelligence inputs suggesting a possible air strike. Markets were shut, and residents were advised to remain in safe locations.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma convened an all-party meeting to brief political leaders on the situation in the border districts, security arrangements, and other precautionary measures undertaken by the government.
