New Delhi: The Central government convened an all-party meeting at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, to update key political leaders on Operation Sindoor. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting, which was attended by top Union ministers and key opposition figures. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not present at the meeting.
The strategic cross-border military action targeted nine major terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The high-precision strikes reportedly hit Lashkar-e-Toiba’s headquarters in Muridke and critical training facilities in Bahawalpur, marking a bold escalation in India’s counter-terror strategy.
Representing the Centre, Union ministers Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, JP Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman, while Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, TMC’s Sandip Bandyopadhyay, DMK’s TR Baalu, and other senior opposition leaders also attended the meeting.
Among them were Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena UBT), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), Sanjay Singh (AAP), Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Sasmit Patra (BJD), John Brittas (CPI-M), and Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM).

The meeting followed a high-level briefing by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to PM Modi earlier in the day. Sources told PTI that Singh and Doval emphasised that the strikes were directed solely at terror infrastructure and not Pakistan’s military, reinforcing India's stance of calibrated retaliation.
As Pakistan responded with intense shelling across the Line of Control, killing 15 and injuring over 50 in J&K’s Poonch district, India escalated diplomatic efforts to prevent further flare-ups.
According to PTI, Doval personally briefed top security officials from the US, UK, France, Russia, Japan, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. India’s message was consistent, as Operation Sindoor was a necessary counter-terror measure and not an act of war.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reportedly put its forces on heightened alert, prompting India to activate civil defence protocols in vulnerable border states. Precautionary blackouts and temporary airport shutdowns have also been implemented as a security measure.
