The News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) has issued an advisory prohibiting its member news channels from inviting Pakistani panelists on their shows, following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. A purported copy of advisory has surface on social media.

In an advisory sent to all editors associated with NBDA, the association cited concerns raised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting regarding channels featuring anti-India commentators from Pakistan who "propagate false propaganda against India."

"In view of the recent attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has drawn our attention to channels inviting anti-India commentators from Pakistan in their programme(s) who propagate false propaganda against India," the advisory stated.

The NBDA, which deals with ethical, operational, regulatory, technical, and legal issues affecting news and current affairs channels, has advised media houses to exercise caution in their editorial decisions.

"Editors of NBDA are advised to refrain from inviting panelists, speakers, and commentators from Pakistan in their programme(s), who are known for espousing views that undermine the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the nation and speak against our country," it emphasized.

The association has requested editors to exercise "a high level of editorial discretion and judgment" to ensure channels and digital platforms are not misused for anti-India propaganda. To ensure compliance, the advisory has been circulated to all concerned editorial personnel.

This decision comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, which has prompted India to take various diplomatic and strategic measures against its neighbor.
